Having a gym membership in Fort Collins seems to be a part of the experience of living here. I just did a quick Google search of “gyms in Fort Collins”, and I stopped counting at 40! In the last 10 years, our town has exploded with so many options that it makes it confusing to someone who is looking into which gym membership will be right for them.
In the span of the last 10 years, we have also been exposed to national and international chains that didn’t exist 10-12 years ago. We now have two 24 Hour Fitness gyms, two Anytime Fitness gyms, two Orangetheory Fitness Clubs, two Koko Fitness clubs, and two boxing/kickboxing gyms.
And let us not forget that Genesis Health Clubs, based out of Kansas, bought out two long-standing independent gyms that started in Fort Collins: The Miramont gyms and Fort Collins Club.
You want CrossFit? Well, guess what. There are seven, yes, SEVEN CrossFit gyms in Fort Collins! How do you choose which one?
And believe it or not, there are still Jazzercise and Curves options as well. Hello 1980 and 1990!
With all these gyms comes the inevitable question, “I don’t know what gym membership in Fort Collins to get.”
I am here to tell you that you don’t need a gym membership in Fort Collins.
For the past 12 years, I have proven that getting a gym membership in Fort Collins is not what you need to get in the best shape of your life. Even if someone doesn’t need a personal trainer, they still have everything they need in their own home!
Think about what you have at home. Do you have stairs that you could run or do step-ups on? Do you have a sturdy coffee table that you can do dips on? Or how about going outside in your backyard? Why workout in the stuffiness of a gym when there is fresh air to be had!
The two most common questions I get are, “Don’t I need all that fancy equipment?” and “What about variety? I need variety in my workouts!” Here is the deal. First, you really don’t need any equipment! Some of the best workouts that I give my clients come from their own bodyweight! Pushups, are by far the best exercise anyone can do! And there are sooooo many varieties!
Speaking of variety, there are so many different types of movements that, with just a little homework, you can find an almost endless assortment of exercises that can be incorporated into your workout routines. Heck, I have 20 pages of exercises, single-spaced, that I have my clients do!
Now if you want equipment, you don’t need much. My clients use Powerblocks and medicine balls when it comes to equipment.
Heck, recently one of my clients found a whole rack of dumbbells at Costco for less than $200. If you think about the typical gym membership costing you around $60/month, those dumbbells cost him just over two months of a gym membership. After two months, he is now saving money by not having a gym membership in Fort Collins.
And then the million-dollar question: “But what if I want a personal trainer? I need a gym for that.”
No you don’t.
I have been training clients in their homes for 16 years. And if you think it’s cheaper to get a trainer at a gym, guess again. I am competitive with the trainers in the gyms when it comes to investing in a personal trainer. You also don’t have the added expense of a gym membership and driving to the gym! I come to my clients rain or shine.
